The Corporate Finance Institute (CFI)’s “Excel Test” consists of 20 questions designed to assess your knowledge of Excel functions and formulas. It is recommended for students starting the FMVA certification program and for employers evaluating candidates’ Excel skills. The test covers various Excel functionalities, including shortcut keys, formula usage, and best practices for financial modeling. A score of 80% or higher indicates solid Excel knowledge.

Take CFI’s Excel Test

The following Excel Test is designed to help you assess your knowledge of basic Excel functions and formulas. We strongly encourage any students who are planning or are beginning their FMVA certification program to take this test to determine whether you will need to take the prerequisite Excel Crash Course and Excel Modeling Fundamentals Course. This is also a useful resource for employers to examine the technical Excel knowledge of the candidates during a finance interview or for applicants who want an Excel practice test.

If you pass this test with 80% or above (16 questions or more), it is likely that you have pretty solid fundamental knowledge of Excel!
